The University of Miami Gallery presents How Small a Thought, a Master of Fine Arts exhibition by Jeannette Stargala.
How Small a Thought exhibits a collection of one-of-a-kind artist's books in various forms. Stargala's visually expressive books take the form of installation art, bound sequences, paper manuscripts, and transformed volumes. Constructed from original monoprints, Stargala's book art preserve the often-sequential character of her printed works. The artist accordingly utilizes the printing process to reveal variation and transformation through the repetition of printmaking. Based initially on a small thought or idea, each book then expands into a deeper, more complex inquiry. Stargala's books, which are imbued with impermanence, transition and ambiguity, subsequently invite her viewers to provide their own reading of her art.
Jeannette Stargala grew up in Dresden, then in East Germany. She moved to former West Germany after the collapse of the Berlin Wall to study architecture, and received an MFA from the Rhine Westphalian Technical University in Aachen in 1997. She worked as a project architect until 2003, when she then relocated with her family to the United States. In 2015, she entered the graduate program in studio arts at the University of Miami to pursue her MFA in printmaking.
